Cread memorias. Haced que vuestro tiempo valga la pena.
ENGLISH
I never thought this experience would be this random; that every month would be so different from the last one. The thing is that, even living on a routine, every day is a whole new world. This month I have been late, but there is a reason; i needed to think about everything, and have time to organize my mind.
This month has brought me surprises, laughs, happiness, reconciliations and more life lessons, which always help.
This month, again, started strong since the first day because our homecoming was the first week of december. Suim and I had a lot of fun during the spirit week dressing up as vsco girls, frat boys or country club; we also had an extra: We were on Homecoming Court! And last, Homecoming dance was fun; not that much the dance but the emotion of preparing, putting on that expensive dress, taking pictures and having dinner with Friends was really fun. That same night we had the luck of being invited to a student´s birthday. All our Friends were there. We hanged out next to the fire pit and we met new people.
Following this, Suim and I got closer to our Friends. Here live is different; there are not streets to walk through with your friends, that is the reason why it is complicated to make plans that doesn´t involve spend money or gas. I think this month I have realized how important is to be involved in as most sports and clubs possibles because it is thanks to basketball from where I have moved to other places, I have created memories and I have met really different but awesome people. Sports have always made me alive; being able top lay on a foreign country and as a starter is a dream come true.
And well, this month also had an extra: CHRISTMAS. Here it is as our New Year or the three Wise Men. During three or four days, the families get together to eat and open Santa Claus´presents. In this región, families are extremely large so it is a bit crazy. My family on itself is large but also multicultural.
This year for various reasons, we could not meet with all their family, so we decided to make our own christmas. We went to our host great-grandma´s house. There, we opened the presents. Suim and i had presents too! It was good night.
The next day, December 24th, I called my parents to talk to them. Eventhough I am a strong person, I miss them on days like this; but do not tell them, they Will get sensible 😉. That day we did not do anything in special. We prepared everything for the next morning, we bought food, we chatted and played basketball outside a bit since Christmas in Louisiana are in short sleeve eventhough it is Winter. Before the kids went to bed, our hostmom read us a typical christmas book and the southern version. She also asked me if i could write the children´s names on their stockings and i accepted.
We went pretty late to bed preparing everything for the next morning. The kids woke us up at 7:30 am to open the presents. Eventhough we were all sleepy, we had fun unwrapping them and playing with our stuff. We ate steak, something that they do not eat often because it is expensive.
New Year nevertheless, was not that exciting. Here, they do not hangout all together toe at twelve grapes; there aren´t bells. So I decided toe at them with my family through facetime besides my korean sister Suim. We had so much fun that she told me she was going to do it every other year eventhough she would be in Korea. So yes, at 5 pm it was 12 am.
The night after we went to our host great-grandma´s house where we ate three typical southern food: cabbage (health), black eye peas (money) and ham (prosperity). That same night we watched Fireworks on our own yard! To finish the day, Suim and I meditated in our room about this year and we took a stock of everything.
If all these surprises were not enough, our host mom told us that: she was pregnant of her seventh baby!
As a last thought, I just wanted to say that, as an Exchange student that is always smiling, there is nothing wrong about crying sometimes, about missing. In the end this experience is never what we expect; it is a non-expected but obvious shock. We just need to get the positive side and take as much advantage of it as possible.
Make memories. Make your time worth it.
