Paula.
January, a passing month.
Nothing is perfect. But that there is not nothing wrong with it; life sometimes reminds us that the perfection is boring. This chapter is dedicated to communication.
Families argue sometimes, or there are things that they do not agree on; but if they avoid each other instead of talking, the problem becomes bigger. This was my case.
We spent a whole month in tension because we thought we were bothering each other. We did not make plans together anymore; we made our own separate lives.
In this moment I realize the importance of our coordinator, who made the function of mediator too. We put everything on the table and new rules were imposed: less phone use, more time in the common areas and keep helping with the chores. With these measures, what they try to get is to re-connect the host family.
My basketball season is about to end; this sport is my happiness and not being able to practice anymore is definitely going to be hard. Not being able to dress their colors anymore; feel the butterflies in my stomach on the first games, with a completely new team, and even the anger of my coach whenever we did something wrong.
Your social life is based on sports down here; everything goes around them.
Things are going to change these following weeks; oour routine is going to change. My sister Suim is going to start her softball season and I will start preparing for track.
I feel like, knowing that I have lost a whole month overthinking and just having four months left in here, I need to start seizing my time in here more than ever.
My advice for anyone out there reading this is: enjoy every minute of, not just your exchange but also your life.
Us, the exchange students are the best example of the pass of time, and even of life. One day we are sitting down next to you eating chips at second hour reading the third act of that boring book and the next day what you know is that we are in a plane going back home with very little chance of coming to visit again soon.
Don’t be afraid and live this moment, before it ends.
With all my honesty.
Paula.
