Él además siempre me daba abrazos y sonreía.
Me alegra poderle llamar amiga.
Paula.
ENGLISH
I take my happiness seriously and therefore, these people right here. They are a big part of the reason why my experience was so awesome.
These people deserve a chapter for sure.
Suim Park: she has her own chapter so I Will just go ahead and say that she is the Friend we all need but don’t know that we do.
Haleigh Hyatt: she (and her red hair) is one of the best people I have ever met. She would just laugh at my accent all day long. I knew I could trust her. She was the first person that tried to teach me bad words; we also had a particular way of saying `hi´ to each other in the hallways. She had a hard life but she taught me indirectly to be grateful for what I have. She has a beautiful soul.
Maddie Jones: she was THE girl. She would pull all the guys which didn’t surprise me because she is so pretty and funny! We were team partners and I really admired her playing because she was very confident. She also introduced me to the famous “ride arounds” and it was with Haleigh and her when I discovered that the cookie dough blizzard is my favorite ice cream.
Jeremiah Belton: the first day I met him, I just saw a kid that would like to get in trouble; but he is more than that. He turned into my brother and always got my back. We would have gone to Prom but you know, Corona was so jealous of my experience that decided to be part of it too and I got cancelled. He supported me playing; something that I loved was listening to him say my name on a weird but funny way. He always gave me hugs and smiled. He is not just what everybody sees; his life isn’t easy either but he figures his stuff out. He was the brother/friend that I needed in my life and that I still keep nowadays.
Laurel Patin: I have never seen a girl that chills as much as her. She is a happy person and does not care about drama, which is the reason why I love her so much. Her hugs were my favorite thing ever and she always made me laugh with her random stuff. She was also a cool dancer too lol. We used to play against each other at basketball; she was good! She was that type of girls that EVERYONE knows but that just has a few close friends; I feel lucky to consider me one of them even being this far.
Colton Eddleman: he is that friend that will give you advice when going shopping, drive you to get something to eat, talk about boys’ drama or jam to your favorite song with you apart from telling the newest gossips; the friend of my dreams definitely. I call him Social Butterfly because he knows people from EVERYWHERE; he would randomly take Suim and I to eat and would turn it into an adventure. He would always cheer me up at the games and was very open-minded so we would have nice conversations.
Wylie Noel: this girl has the craziest soul but also had a hard life. She was the first person I had a long conversation with and we both know how weird the theme of it was but she made me laugh. We had a few times where we would just fall apart but she was there to give me a hug when I needed it the most and I hope she knows I try to be for her too. She was a great basketball manager and an awesome softball player but we both know she needs to get better at driving lol. I am proud of her effort to become part of the Air force.
Abigail Wood: my official TikTok partner. But also, my best friend. We shared Spanish class together…What a class!!! We had so many good conversations and she trusted me with her secrets that I will always keep. She has been there since day one even though we didn’t talk that much during basketball season just because we had different groups of friends. I assure you guys that playing sports has been the best decision ever; thanks to that I met Abby and we now a days keep talking and missing each other so much. She was there until literally the last day. The night I saw her leaving in her car I just realized how real this had gotten and my heart broke. I appreciate our friendship a lot because she is the person I go to whenever I have a problem and she is always there to listen.
Kayleigh Hardwick: she is my American sister. She was the one who helped me and hosted me the last three months. She is an introvert girl but once she lets you inside her head and you pay attention, she turns into an awesome person. We didn’t have much relationship along the year even though we also played together. But the night I made my decision, the second person I texted was her; it was and presentiment. She answered me right at the second; by the next day, she was my new official host sister. We have seen each other cry, laugh, sleep, stress and be cranky.
She is a year younger than me but had her own truck and that was pretty cool; listening to music inside while riding around was one of my favorite things to do with her. She didn’t like hugging very much so I appreciated whenever she let me give her one. She could spend days without talking to me because of how reserved she was but that made me enjoy the moments with her even more.
She made happier than what she thinks just by having her precense, even if that meant just lay down quietly
Sara Belle: the sweetest girl! She was homeschooled, so we couldn’t see each other much. We met at a basketball game; she is dating a boy from that school (who was very kind too and helped me to learn track). Nevertheless, we would text often and I knew I could trust her. She gave me a chance to be myself and I am so happy for what she has achieved along the year.
Haley Clark: this girl will sleep 4 hours, work 6 and go to school and still have energy to jump, scream or gossip but will also take a nap if she doesn’t drink a coke. She could look like a zombie through the hallways or look like she is having the best day of her life. She was the one who gave me rides to the games, she would tell me stuff about her life and her problems. Life was fun with her and I hope she goes far with her nursing career.
Emma Hardin: her and Kenzie T. are my furthest friends. They lived about and hour away, so hanging out with them was hard. We met at a game. We started to chat through Snapchat (which is what the americans do) and we got to a point where we found ourselves hugging every time we saw each other and trusting as a best friend do. That’s what she is. She introduced me to a new world; a new part of south Louisiana, a place where water, land and air melt together and I had so much fun. I really miss her.
Kenzie Trahan: her hair is the best thing you all will ever see! We met through social media and believe it or not, as the girl above, we became really close. She also played basketball so I had seen her before but we never got to talk face to face before. She also lived far but Emma and her traveled an hour just to spend time on my birthday and for things like that I really appreciate our friendship. She is a beautiful girl and I really hope everything goes good for her.
Zach Marcantel: he was the funniest boy I met down there. We shared Spanish class and believe me when I say that we would talk about anything but actual Spanish (that wasn’t even that, it was more like Mexican). We didn’t get to hang out a lot but we both played ball so we would travel together, apart from the student council trips where he would go crazy and I would enjoy watching him. I appreciate that he never turned his back on me.
Landon Logue: well, I don’t really know how to explain our friendship; there was a time that I even questioned if we had one. We shared the first and second class where we would sit next to each other not even asking for it. We didn’t like each other at first; we would try to make the other mad the entire time. He is that typical boy in your class that will act as if he doesn’t know anything but he actually wants to graduate so he may do it late but he will do the homework. He is very good at basketball even though his favorite sport is baseball. We didn’t talk much through social media unless we wanted me to send him the test answers lol but I think that made our friendship healthy. His parents were as great as him; they sent my parents the big poster of me with my basketball uniform (that I showed at the end of my last video). When Kayleigh organized a surprise party, he was one of the people who surprise me the most coming. “We are here for you” he said. I really miss annoying him in class.
Mackenzie Gore and Katelyn Flower: they were the people I got to hang out the least but that made me laugh so hard I promise y’all I would pay to go back in time just to laugh with them again. We also played against each other in basketball. I’m happy I got to meet them.
Bryce rogers and Dylan Decker: a senior graduating this school year. I am so sad I couldn’t see him graduate properly. Him and Dylan would always try to make me smile at school. They weren’t big fans of basketball but you guys won’t ever meet such two country boys! They are the sweetest and I hope I get to see them next time I go there, also pursuing their dreams.
Brianna H. and Ashton G.: as the boys above, they were also seniors and the sweetest souls too! They both have brilliant minds. I feel very lucky I got to meet them both and know about their lives. They are very intelligent and would always be there, listening to my problems and concerns; making me feel better. I just got to see a small graduation from the distance but I felt so excited for them and their new life chapter.
Breanna Nicole: we met through a friend and I feel so grateful for it. She graduated this year and even though I couldn’t watch her get the diploma, I am so proud! I’m truly happy that I can call her friend. She is that type of person that you don’t need to talk to everyday but that will always be there for you. There was this one time at game; I was crying because a person had been mean to me. She came, sat down next to me and gave me a hug without hesitating. That is one of my favorite memories.
I didn’t get to hang out much with people like Hagen, Daegan, Velle (and his friends), Kailon, Daulton, the exchange students, Bailey, Grace, Brooksey, freshmen, girls from the basketball team, people from other high schools or church but each one of them made me happy in an exact moment or gave me a reason to keep pushing and smile.
They are teens with jobs who work to help with the bills most of the times. They don’t travel that much so they invest their money getting food or going shopping with friends. That’s how they live and even though there were times that it would get boring, the moments that I lived with them were the best memories I could have gotten. Remember: it is not the place but the people.
With love one more time,
Paula.
